The daiquiri cocktail recipe is so easy to make; it only has three ingredients.  It is a delightfully delicious cocktail: smooth, simple, elegant.  Try it.  I know you will like it.

two martini glasses of the daiquiri cocktail on a blueish table

When you think about a daiquiri cocktail, your mind doesn’t automatically go to this cocktail.  Your mind goes to a strawberry daiquiri.

Am I right?  I am!  You bet your sweet bippy I am.

Why do I prefer this daiquiri to the ones with fruit in it?

It tastes purer. Do I love daiquiris with fruit in them, like the blueberry daiquiri?  Yes, I do!  But in fruit daiquiris you taste the fruit and the sweet and sour mix, not so much the rum.  Sometimes, I like to taste more rum.

Can I order a classic daiquiri in a restaurant?

Yes. Since it only has three ingredients and most restaurants have those ingredients, you should be safe to order it. The daiquiri is more popular now because in 2016, it was #4 of the top 5 most popular cocktails of the year. So, more people know about it.  If you would like to see the rest of the cocktails that made that list, go here.

    Helpful tips

    • Always squeeze your own fresh lime juice; don’t use bottled lime juice if you can help it
    • Make your own simple syrup – 1 cup of sugar to 1 cup of water and boil for 5 minutes
    • You can use white rum instead of gold but I prefer the gold as it gives the cocktail a nice glowy look

How to make a classic daiquiri cocktail

    Pre-step

Fill a cocktail shaker half way with ice and slice a few thin lime wheels for garnish.  After measuring each ingredient below, pour it into the shaker.

    Step one

Gather the ingredients: rum, limes and simple syrup.  That is it.  Isn’t that easy?  Wait till you see how it’s mixed.

The ingredients: gold rum, simple syrup, and lime

    Step two

Measure 4 ounces of gold rum.

Gold rum measured out with the bottle behind it along with some glasses and lime

    Step three

Measure 2 ounces of lime juice.

Lime measured out with other limes on the table along with the cocktail shaker in the background

    Step four

Measure 1 ounce of simple syrup.

Simple syrup measured out with the bottle in the background and the shaker and glasses in the back as well

    Step five

Cap the shaker and shake it for 30 seconds.  Strain the liquid into your martini glasses and take the lime wheels and place them in the drink.  Sometimes they float, other times they sink a little.  It depends on how thinly you slice them.

Isn’t it a pretty drink?  Let’s look at the daiquiri cocktail from a vertical view.

All that is left to do is pick up the glass and sip that classic daiquiri!

I hope you enjoyed this recipe.  Just writing about it, makes me want to make it again and sip it.

Have you ever had a classic daiquiri? I’d love to know, so leave me a comment, please.

Sounds like a great recipe! I don’t think I knew you could just get a plain daiquiri. I always thought of strawberry as well. Good information to know!

A classic, non-blended daiquiri might be my fella’s favorite drink of all time. I love that this one comes together with just three simple ingredients!

Love your photos, looks so fresh and tempting. Will the use of light or gold rum impact the flavor?

Alina. The two different rums taste so close to each other that I don’t think you would notice it. White rum isn’t as aged as golden or dark.
