Drunk Leprechaun Drink

The drunk leprechaun is a festive and fun cocktail recipe that captures the spirit of Irish celebrations. This vibrant green beverage combines a mix of flavors that are both refreshing and invigorating, making it a popular choice for St. Patrick’s Day festivities or any occasion that calls for a touch of whimsy.

Eye-catching color and delightful taste make the drunk leprechaun an exciting cocktail to have in your repertoire. It offers a playful twist on traditional Irish drinks and will be the star of your next gathering.

The drunk leprechaun reminds me of a drink you would sip by the poolside. It’s refreshing and fun! The alternative name is the drunken leprechaun cocktail, but I like this name better.

Ingredients and substitutions

  • Irish Whiskey – or regular whiskey, but Irish is the way to go.
  • Midori – or melon liqueur.
  • Blue Curacao
  • Pineapple juice – it can also be made with orange juice, but try it with pineapple juice, first.

I have to share a beautiful whiskey mixer glass. It’s from GlenCairn. If you love all things whiskey, you’ll enjoy their glassware.

Tips
  • Quality of ingredients: The choice of Irish whiskey can greatly influence the taste of your cocktail. Opt for a smooth and mellow whiskey to ensure it complements rather than overpowers the other flavors. If you don’t have Irish whiskey, use another good quality whiskey.
  • Experiment with garnishes: While pineapple wedges are classic, don’t be afraid to experiment with other garnishes. A sprig of mint, lemon wedge, lime wedge, or maraschino cherry can add a new dimension to your drink.
  • Serving options: This green drink can be served in various glasses, but a double old-fashioned glass is, in my opinion, the best glass for the drink.
  • Ice matters: Use large ice cubes in your glasses as they melt slower, preventing over-dilution of your cocktail.
  • Prep for Parties: If you’re serving this at a gathering, make it ahead in a large batch (excluding ice). Keep it in the fridge and shake individual servings with ice as needed. Or, if you want to make a pitcher of this recipe, there is a servings section in the recipe card. Just change the number of servings you want to serve. Your guests are going to love this drink.
  • Enjoy responsibly: Always remember that while the drunk leprechaun is delightful, it’s also potent because of the amount of alcohol it contains.

Before I begin the cocktail, I must tell you about this Yeti cocktail shaker. It is by far the best shaker I’ve ever owned. It keeps your hands from freezing as you shake it, your cocktail perfectly cold, and stops the ice from melting. If you’re a cocktail enthusiast, you have to try it out.
