Instructions

  • Take a sharp paring knife and put 2 shallow cuts into each sausage.
    10 Italian sausages
  • Preheat the air fryer at 370 F. If you have the tray type, remove before preheating but if you have the basket type, leave it in when you preheat the fryer. Set the timer to 15 minutes.
  • Place each sausage with the cuts facing up on the trays in a single layer.
  • Once the air fryer beeps that it has heated up, add the trays with the sausages on them. If you have the basket type, add the sausages in a single layer with the slit facing up. Try not to have the sausages touch each other. You may have to do them in batches.
  • After 7 minutes, if you have the tray type of air fryer, take the bottom tray and place it in the top slot, and visa versa. If you have the basket type, take a pair of tongs and flip each sausage.
  • When the air fryer has finished cooking, open the air fry and check the internal temperature. It should be at least 160 degrees F.
  • Eat, smile, and enjoy.

Notes

Helpful tips

  • I use an air fryer with trays instead of the basket type. With trays, you don’t need to flip the sausages halfway through cooking, and you remove the trays when preheating.
  • If you’re using a basket-style air fryer, flip the sausages midway through cooking. The basket stays inside during preheating.
  • My tray-style fryer fits all the sausages in one batch. With a basket-style fryer, you’ll likely need to cook in batches.
  • We prefer sweet mild Italian sausage, but hot Italian sausage works just as well. Honestly, all types of sausages taste great in the air fryer.
  • This method also works with kielbasa, bratwurst, turkey sausage, or chicken sausage.
  • When placing sausages in the air fryer, keep the slit side facing up. This helps retain juices, keeping the meat moist.
  • Serving ideas: pair sausages with pasta, place them on hamburger buns or sub rolls, or serve them as the protein in a main meal.
  • Store leftover sausages in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • To reheat, preheat the air fryer to 370°F, arrange the sausages in a single layer, and cook for 6 minutes, or until heated through.
