Helpful tips
I use Cabernet Sauvignon in this single-serving sangria recipe but Merlot, Rioja, Old Vine Zinfandel, and Chianti will work. I do believe that Pinot Noir is too light to give it the right taste.
You can use different fresh fruit than I use. Some good alternatives are strawberries, apples, pineapples, blueberries, blackberries, and oranges.
If you don't have a muddler, use the back of a wooden spoon. It will get the job done, it will just take you a little longer to muddle.
I use Cointreau in this recipe, but if you don't want to spend the money on this premium orange liqueur, triple sec will do.
Leave ice out of the cocktail shaker as you are going to muddle the fruit in it first.
Even though you see two glasses of sangria in the photos, you can make a pitcher if you like. (In the recipe card below, click on the number next to the word Servings to open the slider that adjusts your quantities and the corresponding ingredients.)
