Blood Orange Margarita

  • 4 ounces tequila I used Patron Silver
  • 2 ounces Cointreau or triple sec
  • 7 ounces of freshly squeezed blood orange juice


  • 2 slices blood orange


  • Fill a cocktail shaker 3/4 way with ice
  • Add tequila, Cointreau and blood orange juice.
  • Cap shaker
  • Place kosher salt on a plate
  • Wet rim of high ball glass or margarita glass
  • Place on salted plate
  • Shake off excess salt and place glass right side up
  • Shake the shaker for 15 seconds, vigorously
  • Pour contents in glasses, being careful to not pour it on salt
  • Ease an orange slice into each blood orange margarita. Let it peek out
  • Admire the colors
  • Sip
  • Smile
  • Enjoy


Try it first without the simple syrup to see if it is sweet enough. If you like a sweeter cocktail, add the .25 ounce of simple syrup to each cocktail.
