Helpful tips
  • If you're only making a few of these cocktails, I recommend buying the small bottles of champagne; unless of course, you're planning to drink the rest of a full bottle.
  • If you want to infuse your own homemade raspberry vodka instead of using store-bought (which might have added sugar), you'll need to plan ahead: it takes 5 days for the vodka to infuse properly.
  • I use Chambord black raspberry liqueur, but you can use any brand you prefer.
  • I recommend unsweetened cranberry juice for all my cocktails (so I can control their sweetness) but if you can't find it in the store, then use less grenadine (one teaspoon per cocktail) or even omit it, which I strongly recommend.
  • You will put all the ingredients in the cocktail shaker EXCEPT the champagne, which goes in only after you've shaken together the other ingredients. Champagne is bubbly, so you don't want to shake it. After you add it, take a cocktail spoon and gently stir it in before pouring the drink into the glasses.
  • I choose to use regular maraschino cherries instead of my beloved Luxardo cherries in this cocktail, because I want their vibrant red to match the color of the drink.
  • Although I find this garnish too sweet, but if you want, you can put red sugar on the rim. Here's how: wet your finger with some simple syrup and rub it around the rim. Pour a small amount of the sugar on a small plate. Dip each glass in the red sugar, making sure each glass has an even red sugar rim. Shake off any excess sugar and set aside.
