I like to make buttermilk instead of buying it from the store. In this recipe, I use a powdered mix but here's another way to make it.
How to make buttermilk at home - In a cup measuring glass, pour a tablespoon of either lemon juice or white vinegar into it. Add milk up to the measuring line that denotes a cup. Stir and let the milk sit for 5 minutes. It will curdle slightly because of the acid.
I let the bread cool fully on the wire rack before cutting it as it is easier, but if you want to cut it when it's still warm, use a serrated knife and know that it might tear or crumble.
Don't skip the cinnamon topping. Here's the fun part, the topping doesn't stay on the top. It will sink into the bread and cause a slight swirl.
