Sangria Cocktail

This delicious and easy sangria recipe will hit the spot!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 wedge lemon
  • 1/4 wedge lime
  • 8 - 10 cherries (pits removed)
  • 8 ounces red wine
  • 3 ounces apricot brandy
  • 1.5 ounces Cointreau
  • 4 ounces orange juice
  • club soda (to fill up the glass)

Garnish

  • 1 orange wheel (cut in half and with a small slit cut into it so you can place one on each rim.

Instructions

  • Place the fruit in an empty shaker and muddle to release juices, remove the fruit to a glass bowl and set aside.
    1/4 wedge lemon, 1/4 wedge lime, 8 - 10 cherries
  • Fill shaker 1/2 way with ice.
  • Add wine, brandy, Cointreau and orange juice.
    8 ounces red wine, 3 ounces apricot brandy, 1.5 ounces Cointreau, 4 ounces orange juice
  • Cap shaker and shake vigorously 10 seconds. Add fresh ice to the glasses.
  • Strain, pour, and divide the sangria between the two glasses. Leave at least an inch to the top of the glass for the club soda.
  • Pour club soda directly in the glasses, but leave a little room to add fruit to the drink.

  • Divide the cherries into the glasses of sangria. Also add half of an orange wheel to each rim.

Notes

Helpful tips
  • I use Cabernet Sauvignon in this single-serving sangria recipe but Merlot, Rioja, Old Vine Zinfandel, and Chianti will work. I do believe that Pinot Noir is too light to give it the right taste.
  • You can use different fresh fruit than I use. Some good alternatives are strawberries, apples, pineapples, blueberries, blackberries, and oranges.
  • If you don't have a muddler, use the back of a wooden spoon. It will get the job done, it will just take you a little longer to muddle.
  • I use Cointreau in this recipe, but if you don't want to spend the money on this premium orange liqueur, triple sec will do.
  • Leave ice out of the cocktail shaker as you are going to muddle the fruit in it first.
