Pomegranate Gin Cocktail

A pomegranate gin cocktail brings together the bright, tart flavors of fresh pomegranate juice with the crisp, botanical notes of gin. This refreshing drink offers a perfect balance of sweet and tangy, making it an ideal choice for both casual gatherings and festive occasions.

If you haven’t yet decided what to serve at your next party, I recommend this pretty cocktail, which tastes amazing. I made it for the holiday season, but it’s well-received all year long.

And since Valentine’s day is just around the corner, it’s a pretty red cocktail to get you and your honey in the mood!

How to remove pomegranate seeds or arils

  • Wear an apron because the juice can stain your clothes.
  • With the pomegranate nub facing the ceiling, make a cut into the skin no more than a quarter of the way deep down into the fruit around the entire circumference.  Keeping the nub face up, turn the fruit 45 degrees and cut the skin again the same way as above.  When you’re done, the skin has been cut in quarters.
  • Twist the fruit to break it open.  Holding the fruit over a large bowl, place your thumbs on the skin and push with your thumbs.  Some seeds will fall into the bowl, but know that most of the seeds are deeply embedded in this papery substance.
  • Take your fingers and gently remove the seeds.
  • There may be paper stuck to the seeds. Either fill the bowl with water and let the paper rise to the top of the water or remove the paper without the water, as I do.
  • I don’t use water because I don’t want any of the juice to escape the seeds.

Helpful tips

  • I always recommend using the best alcohol you can afford, but with a mixed drink like this one, a mid-range dry gin is perfectly fine.
  • Any pomegranate juice will do, but I enjoy and recommend Pom brand.
  • Before juicing the lemon, roll it between your hands or place it on a flat surface and roll it gently with your palm to release the juices.
  • I use this gadget to juice my fruit.
  • If you like a fizzy drink, add club soda or seltzer water after you pour out the cocktail, giving you a little bubbly! Don’t use tonic water as it will change the taste of this cocktail.

How to Mix the Pomegranate Gin Cocktail

Pre-step

Get a cocktail shaker and fill halfway with ice.  Get a measuring glass and two martini glasses or coupe glasses.

After measuring out the ingredients, pour them into the cocktail shaker.

Step one

Gather the ingredients – gin, pomegranate juice, lemon, and simple syrup. Also, ready the garnish – 2 sprigs of rosemary and pomegranate seeds.

Step two

Measure 4 ounces of gin. (A)

Step four

Measure 2 ounces lemon juice. (C)

Step five

Measure 1 ounce of simple syrup. (D)

Step six

Spoon pomegranate seeds into the martini glasses.  I put in around 10 seeds, but you can use as many as you like!

Step seven

Place the lid on the shaker and vigorously shake for 30 seconds.

Step eight

Pour, divide, and strain the pomegranate gin cocktail between the two glasses and place a fresh rosemary sprig in each drink.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces gin
  • 2 ounces pomegranate juice
  • 2 ounces lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 ounce simple syrup (or more if you want it sweeter)

Garnish

  • 2 sprigs rosemary
  • 20 pomegranate seeds (or more)

Instructions

  • Add at least 10 pomegranate seeds in each martini glass and fill cocktail shaker halfway with ice.
