I had never consumed a blueberry daiquiri before.

  • Strawberry?  Yes
  • Banana?  Yes
  • Plain?  Yes
  • Blueberry?  No

What the heck?  What . . . have . . . I . . . been . . . thinking?

I hadn’t made many blueberry drinks.  In fact, I’ve only blogged about one previously on Dishes Delish: the blueberry mint cosmo.  It’s a great drink, but I must say that this blueberry daiquiri beats the cosmo in taste.  At least in my humble opinion!

I named it bountiful because of how flavorful this blueberry daiquiri is.  You will be smacking your lips every single time you take a sip.

Oh, wait!  I smack my lips every time I eat or drink anything.

What other fruit can I use?

You can make fruit daiquiris with any fruit. Seriously, it’s all good!

Do I have to have these daiquiris frozen?

No. In fact, my plain daiquiri is not frozen.  Just know that if you don’t blend your daiquiri, it will be a totally different cocktail. You would either have to use fruit juice or muddle the fruit and shake to mix.

To muddle or not to muddle, that is the question

The thing with muddling is you release the juice from the fruit, but you do not pulverize the skin.  So, you won’t get the same rich, vibrant flavor that you would get if you use the blender.  When you blend fruit, particularly berries, you get the whole berry flavor, not just the juice.

Muddling is a great tool and perfect for some cocktails, but if you want a full bodied, refreshing, ice cold cocktail, use the blender!

Helpful tips

  • You don’t have to use the best quality liquor in these daiquiris, although you can if you want
  • The final color is more reddish than blue because of the lime juice
  • Wash the blueberries well before blending them (or eating them for that matter)
  • Use a high powered blender
  • Even though I say 2 cups, the amount of ice you use is dependent on the size of your blender
  • The more ice you use, the thicker your blueberry daiquiri will be
  • Use whatever glassware you have on hand, but the tulip glass is the traditional way to serve a daiquiri.  I also love showing off this cocktail in a few different shaped glasses

How to make a blueberry daiquiri

Pre-step

Gather the blender and measuring glass.  After measuring each ingredient, pour it into your blender container.

Also, take 2 martini picks and spear 4 blueberries to each pick for the garnish.  If you don’t have martini picks, toothpicks will do.

Step one

Gather the ingredients – washed blueberries, rum, limes and simple syrup.

Step two

Measure 4 ounces of rum. (A)

Step three

Measure 2 ounces of lime juice. (B)

Rum and lime juice poured out with the bottle and limes in the background

Step four

Measure 1 ounce of simple syrup. (C)

Step five

Add the blueberries. (D)

Simple syrup poured out and all the ingredients including the blueberries in the blender container

Step six

Add 1 – 2 cups of ice, cap your blender and process until smooth and thick.

I’m known for using different glasses when serving my cocktails, so I decided on using a tulip glass and double old fashioned glass for this blueberry daiquiri.

Pour the contents of the blender between the two glasses and lay the picks across the top of the glasses.

  2. May I say, your pictures are so gorgeous! And I’m sorry about the black thumb (although it was so funny to read, should I feel guilty about that?). My dad had the greenest thumbs in the house, and I may have a touch of green in me, although I cannot say for sure. I have killed some, but some are still alive, so I’m not sure now….

  9. I’ve still too much rum left from our last vacation in Cuba. As I’m not a big fan of rum, I use it mostly for baking e.g apple cake. But your beautiful blueberry daiquiri (we love blueberries) inspires me to surprise my hubby this weekend with a special cocktail:) Thank you!

    1. Thanks Gabi! I would love to go to Cuba!! One of the best things about daiquiri’s, especially fruit daiquiri’s is you can hardly taste the booze. But, that might be a bad thing too. 🙂
