I learned about the benefits of taking collagen years ago when I was enrolled in natural health courses. I intended to get my master’s degree in natural health, but the universe had other plans for me.

Once I started making green smoothies, I always found that they lacked something. But once I started adding collagen I realized I had discovered the missing piece for me. I find that it smooths out the smoothie and although it doesn’t add taste, it adds a texture that I absolutely love.

Tips
  • You can use fresh blueberries and bananas like the ones pictured below or, if you like your smoothie to be as cold as I do, you can freeze the fruit beforehand. I made Christopher’s smoothie from fresh fruit because he doesn’t like his drinks freezing cold.
  • For my smoothie, I use frozen wild blueberries and a banana I peeled, cut, and put in the freezer the night before.
  • Does the order that you add the ingredients matter? In a blender with the blades in the cover, you add the solids first and then the liquids.
  • With a blender like a Vitamix where the blades are in the bottom of the container, you need to add the liquids first, then the powders, then the fruit, spinach, and ice.
  • You can add many other ingredients. Here is a list of items I alternately add when I want a different take on the green smoothie: strawberries instead of blueberries, chia seeds, peanut butter; other nut butters like almond butter or cashew butter, hemp seeds, dashes of cinnamon, chocolate chips, cocoa powder, and the list goes on.
  • If you want to make this healthy smoothie recipes vegan, you can omit the collagen and yogurt.
  • I use almond milk because I prefer it, but you can substitute it with soy milk, cashew milk, or oat milk.
  • My spinach smoothie isn’t as green as others because of the added blueberries. So if you want vibrant green spinach smoothies, omit the blueberries.

I need to get closer to the smoothie!

Christopher loves spinach, just not in smoothies. So, I made him one with just the blueberries, banana and collagen.

It’s as delicious as it is pretty.
