Appletini Cocktail

This appletini cocktail recipe is made with vodka, sour apple liqueur, lime juice, and simple syrup. The ultimate combination of sour and sweet, this sour apple martini is the perfect cocktail for St. Patrick’s Day festivities and summer barbecues!

Doesn’t this colorful cocktail scream St. Patrick’s Day? It does for me. But you shouldn’t imbibe this cocktail only on St. Patrick’s day. You will surely enjoy it when you’re in the mood for something slightly sour yet delicious.

My niece is a big appletini cocktail lover and although it’s not my go-to drink, I do enjoy imbibing one or two during cocktail parties.

Helpful tips

  • When I make sweet and sour mix for my cocktails, I usually use a 1:2 ratio. So 1 part sweet to 2 parts sour. The reason I do this is that I prefer my cocktails more sour than sweet.
  • Try the recipe first with my 1:2 ratio before you start adding more simple syrup. You might be surprised to learn that you don’t need cocktails to be as sweet as they are in bars and restaurants. If you don’t find it sweet enough, add simple syrup one teaspoon at a time until it’s to your liking.
  • There are many sour apple schnapps brands out there. I’m not loyal to any particular one, so use whichever brand you fancy. Dekuyper Sour apple pucker is also a great choice, along with green apple schnapps.
  • Want even more apple taste? Try Smirnoff green apple vodka instead of plain vodka.
  • Make your own simple syrup as it is very easy. Here’s how:
    • In a saucepan, add 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil on medium heat, lower to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Let cool before you add to any cocktail.
  • For garnish, I use thin, Granny smith apple slices, but you can use any variety of apple.

How to make the appletini cocktail

Pre-step

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice and get a measuring glass and two martini glasses. Cut two thin wheels from a Granny Smith apple for the garnish and set aside.

After measuring out the ingredients, pour them into the cocktail shaker.

Step one

Gather the simple ingredients – sour apple liqueur, vodka, lime, and simple syrup.

Step two

Measure 4 ounces vodka. (A)

Step three

Measure 4 ounces sour apple liqueur. (B)

Step four

Measure 2 ounces lime juice. (C)

Step five

Measure 1 ounce simple syrup. (D)

Step six

Cap the shaker and shake for 15 seconds. Strain and divide the liquid between the two glasses. Float a slice of apple in each appletini cocktail.
